Floodplain Information

Flood

Floods are among Earth’s most common and most destructive natural hazards. No other kind of natural disaster in America has caused more death and destruction than floods. That is why the City of Scio works hard to provide as much, up-to-date, information about flood plains as possible.

With Scio’s long history of floods, stemming from Thomas Creek it is important that Scio residents understand flooding and the dangers it presents.

The Special Flood Hazard Map can be used to determine if a property is located in the mapped flood plain.  If you need a building permit for a property that is located in the special flood hazard area additional information or a Floodplain Development permit may be required.

The link to the Thomas Creek Water Gage allows you to look at the water level and the discharge rate of Thomas Creek at the Highway 226 crossing of Thomas Creek east of Scio. This gauge is used as part of the City of Scio's early flood warning system.

If you have any questions about the maps or the information provided, please contact the Scio City Hall at the given number.
